How to develop team's problem-solving skills?
Reading time: 4 min.
1. Identify the problem

1.1 Before we begin to identify the problem, it is important to calm down and organize our thoughts and emotions.

1.2 Panic, searching for those to blame, fear of punishment, fear of the unknown, etc. - this is what happens in the minds of teams with serious systemic diseases. Please do not create conditions for such thoughts and feelings. Be an example - let every team member know that any problem can be solved, that you will be there and help (if needed), that no one will blame anyone, but everyone will look for optimal solutions.

2. Generate solutions

2.1 Having fulfilled the key condition of the first point (putting your thoughts and feelings in order), you can proceed to the next step – generating solutions.

2.2 Be a constant example for your team; show what solution generation methods you use, demonstrate their simplicity and effectiveness, and train your team members to use these methods. Involve and create interest, but don't force.

3. Evaluate solutions

3.1 Having taught team members to use methods for generating solutions, move on to the next stage - training in evaluation methods.

3.2 Please remember the principle of doing everything possible to make the quickest and most objective assessment possible in a particular situation. This may involve different methods, different criteria, involvement of multiple team members, etc.

4. Implement solutions

4.1 Regularly demonstrate with your own example how paper solutions come to life. Be committed to the principle: thought is good, action based on thought is even better.

4.2 Explain to team members why it is important to stick to your plans and why it is important to regularly work on your habits.

4.3 Show the process of implementing solutions, create basic templates for training in implementing solutions.

5. Review results

5.1 Create a culture in which everyone involved does their best to achieve the intended outcome, while being happy with any results.

5.2 Emphasize the importance of accepting what happens with gratitude, not being upset if something doesn’t go as planned, but at the same time drawing the right conclusions, learning and constantly developing.

5.3 Tell your colleagues about the analysis methods you use and teach them how to use them.

Key points

1. Many leaders dream of an independent, strong team that can quickly and effectively solve any problems; but few are willing to invest their time, soul, love and patience into creating the appropriate conditions.

2. Be patient and don't expect quick results. Let the team get started, take the first small steps towards solving problems.

3. Please remember: a kind word spoken at the right moment in the right way can significantly speed up the process of implementing a new habit.

Good luck!
